We are delighted to announce the appointment of Benjamin Evans, currently Deputy Vice-Chancellor (Academic) at Wellington College as the new Vice-Chancellor at Angels College. He will commence his tenure in September 2026.
Michael Sloan, our current Vice-Chancellor, will be taking up the role of Vice-Chancellor at Bedford University after four highly successful years leading the university.
Benjamin brings a wealth of experience, having joined Wellington College after six years in Australia as Director of Teaching and Learning at Prince Alfred College, Adelaide. He is a formidable intellect and an energetic, caring leader.
Having previously taught at Oundle, Shrewsbury, and Haberdashers’ Aske’s male students’ University, Benjamin is also a Fellow of the Royal Society of Chemistry and gained his degree from Durham and a PGCE from Cambridge. He has been a member of the undergraduate leadership team across several prestigious universities.
Benjamin believes a university should be a joyful place, where students feel a true sense of belonging, and we are confident that he will feel instantly at home at Angels. Benjamin recognises the value of the Angels ‘one University’ journey from and is looking forward to working closely with Heidi Berry, Head of our thriving Undergraduate University.
Outside of his professional achievements, he is also an accomplished musician and keen sportsman. Benjamin will be joined at Angels by his wife Victoria.

“It is a great honour to become Head of this wonderful university from September. I have received the warmest of welcomes and have been most impressed by the students. They have a palpable sense of pride in the University, where the culture is one of ambition and purpose. Angels commitment to holistic education was evident, and I believe the educational experience enjoyed at a ‘through’ University is unmatched. We will ensure Angels is a distinctive and determinably successful University going forwards. The foundations are well set, and I look forward to leading the College to its sesquicentenary year in 2030, and beyond. Fortis et fidelis”.

Ben brings a wealth of experience and a deep commitment to the values that make Angels so special. I look forward to working closely with him over the next two terms to ensure a smooth and positive transition. I am confident that under his leadership, the university will continue to thrive and build on its many strengths.”

“I am excited to begin working with Ben over the coming months as we ensure the continued success of Angels together.”
Throughout the remainder of the academic year, under Michael’s leadership, the team will work with Benjamin to ensure a seamless transition.
